The school Gift attended is going to plant a tree in his memory.  The Cemetery where he is buried called today to discuss with us what we want the memorial that is going to be with the tree to look like.  I assumed that the school chose to deal with them for the memorial because that is where we buried Gift.  But it turns out that the manager there was touched by our story because his daughter knew Gift.  They were in school together.  In the same grade.

As he showed us around he shared that his daughter is out there with him often.  Every time this girl is there she visits Gift’s grave.  Every time.  She puts flowers on his grave.  Sits at his grave.  This little girl knew Gift and was touched by him in the one week that she knew him that she visits his grave.  I have only gone once to his grave.  His marker still isnt even up.  He isnt there.  His body, the packaging to his soul is decomposing there.  Gift is in heaven.  I am comforted by that thought.  But I am also comforted by the thought that this girl goes to his grave.

I dont know how to reconcile the two.  Maybe I dont have to.  Going to his grave is hard for me.  Maybe if I went alone, but I am almost never alone.  But knowing that someone goes somehow makes me so happy.  Maybe it is the fact that she hasnt forgotten him.  And that she still thinks about Gift.  She would have had to go out of her way to find where he is buried and to make the effort.  She won’t forget Gift.  I really find that a happy thought.

I understand this. I feel comforted knowing that friends have visited my daughter’s memorial. Just knowing others think of her as much as I do. A tree is also a very special thing. X

It really is a special thing. I thought it was originally was going to be at the cemetery, but they are planting it at the school! So pleased by that. That all children will have a space to remember him there.

It’s a great idea and important to remember Gift at school. My daughter has a tree and bench at her school, it’s been invaluable for my other children there. They don’t like visiting the cemetery x
